Dear Thaddeus,
The grape-picking went off very well, with an efficient and friendly international team.We started on Thursday October 3rd with the whites and on Sunday 6th with the reds.
Despite adverse weather conditions and the arrival of the first cold spell, we obtained good sugar and acidity levels.
Unfortunately, a lot of rot spots had developed in some vineyards, especially in the whites, and very selective sorting has been necessary.
Once again the quantities are very low.The wines already show an attractive colour and the first tastings reveal some intense aromas.
Following this first positive impression of the quality, we have to wait for the first fermentation and then the maturing in casks in order to appreciate and judge the 2013 vintage.
We were lucky to have finished the picking in Côte de Nuits on Wednesday 9th before the drastic drop in temperatures and the next spell of rain which started on Thursday morning. As harvesting was late, the change in the colours of the leaves is already noticeable.
The “Côte d’Or” offers a magnificent display of very intense red and yellow hues: a wonderful moment of the year.We wish you a very pleasant autumn.
